Licensing Compact Signed Into Law
After 5 years of dedication and advocacy, the OT COMPACT bill has been SIGNED into law! This is a tremendous accomplishment for Michigan, joining neighboring states to address shortages, maintain work while moving, and expand virtual work opportunities.WHAT IS THE COMPACT? A legal agreement allowing a ""compact privilege"" for OT practitioners in good standing the opportunity to work in other states that have passed the OT compact.
IS THIS REQUIRED FOR ALL OT PRACTITIONERS TO SIGN UP? No, only OT practitioners who want to work in other states must sign up; however, everyone must still maintain their Michigan LARA, but the OT Compact is a choice.
HOW TO SIGN UP FOR THE COMPACT? The compact will be live in Michigan in the next 18 months. The waiting period was an agreed-upon time period for activation between legislators from both parties and the governor's office. During this time, the Michigan OT Compact Delegate will provide information on how to sign up and participate in the compact. Anyone interested in participating will create an account in the ""Compact Portal"" and sign up for the state(s) they wish to work in. There may be a small fee for each state.
BENEFITS OF THE COMPACT: OT Practitioners who participate in the compact will only need to maintain continuing education in Michigan (or the home state they live in). This saves significant money and time on continuing education and decreases the need for multiple state licenses.
